I'll See Your Bet, and Raise You a Cake . . .

A friend asked for some help in creating a cake for her husband's surprise 30th birthday last week!  And in addition to the fun cake, she was also going to spring a fun-tastic trip to Vegas as his gift!  So, why not mesh both of the ideas into one big edible birthday gift?

That's how the poker table cake was born.  Dana, my sister Jessica, and I helped to make this cake come to life. Dana (lovingly) scratched-baked two 9x13 vanilla cakes.  Jessica trimmed, filled, stacked and iced the cakes to resemble the shape of a poker table.  It was then wrapped in nicely rolled (go Dana!)chocolate fondant, and inlaid with green fondant.  Then came the fun bits.  Hand-drawn poker cards, fondant poker chips (props to Emma G!) and other details were added.  We also added a cool Luxor-logo emblazoned ashtray for his monogrammed cigars and a fondant boarding pass (come birthday card) for Vegas!
