I made a celebration cake for my 7 year old son's hockey team wrap up party. It's a replica of their team jersey...
I baked a two layer 9x13 vanilla cake, filled and frosted with vanilla frosting. It was then covered in 2 lbs of fondant! The emblem was freehand drawn with an edible marker.
The hardhat was a helmet awarded to the hardest working player at the end of each game. It has been signed by all of the members of the team. I thought it would be a nice touch to add the helmet as part of the cake to personalize it a bit further.
The hardhat was made by packing an entire recipe of Rice Krispy treats into a small stainless steel mixing bowl. Once hardened, I covered the 'hat' in a skim coat of frosting (to fill in the gaps between the cereal) and then covered it in rolled fondant.
Wow, those look pretty! To be honest I thought it was a real jersey at first glance. I don't think I can eat such a perfectly-made cake, hahaha!
