Clone Trooper Commander Cody Cake

Another notch, I mean cake, added to my belt! This one was relatively easy, carved, frosted and decorated in about an hour. I am getting wiser and creating templates from freehand drawings (based on internet images), transfered from cardstock onto the cake when I am carving. Sure beats freehand carving!

Commander Cody was my son's request for his 5th Birthday cake...made from 2 - 9"x13" yellow butter cakes (scratch!) and frosted with vanilla buttercream (yummmm). I ended up with a lot of scraps that will be turned into a strawberry and cream trifle!

After I stacked, iced and carved the cake, I left it in the fridge to firm up for a few minutes and tinted some fondant. Just needed to make a small ball of yellowy-orange and an even smaller ball of black. I covered the firmed up cake in white fondant, then decorated accordingly. Oh, I forgot, the clever bit! I couldn't figure out how I was going to create Cody's visor, so I used Kit Kat! (2 sticks). Placed the shaped Kit Kat on top of the icing, covered them in icing too and then covered them (again) with fondant! So good!

Hopefully the little guy likes it!
